The Department of Computer Science at Duke University offers programs
leading to the degrees
of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.),
Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). In
addition, there is a joint M.D.-Ph.D. program with the School of
Medicine. Our degree programs satisfy several basic objectives:

to provide instruction leading to a broad intellectual understanding of
the basic areas of computer science,

to ensure skill in the use of the tools and technology of computer science,
-
to provide a firm theoretical foundation so that students can adapt to future
technological change, and
-
to foster an understanding of computer science as an interdisciplinary
field and to augment and enhance interests and abilities in other areas.
The Ph.D. program is especially designed to provide advanced
specialization and opportunities for creative research.
