The Duke CS cluster testbed is funded by equipment grants from NSF's Academic Research Instrumentation program, Intel Corporation, and Myricom Inc. All machines are connected by switched 100Mb/s Ethernet, and most (except the Intel Architecture cluster) are also connected by Myricom's 1Gb/s Myrinet network.

Many of the research machines are currently open for general use by members of the department without specific permission, although we reserve the right to ask you to back off if your use conflicts with other research uses. A few machines are untrusted and reserved for specific projects. The cluster testbed is administered by Drew Gallatin, gallatin@cs. Please do not send mail to problem concerning these machines.

Most Alpha and Sun systems are in the ``fishbowl'' lab (D316), which is generally open during the day and locked at night. Feel free to request access or a key if you need it. The Intel Systems cluster is rack-mounted in the ``Duke SRC'' lab (Systems Research Closet) on the first floor. These machines are accessible only through the network; use rconsole for kernel hacking. The Intel Architecture Cluster is rack-mounted in the machine room in North building, and is accessible only through the network.
