CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
First Workshop on PC-based System Performance and Analysis
in conjunction with the
8th International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming
Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS VIII)
Fairmont Hotel, San Jose, CA - October 3, 1998
Organizers:
Rich Uhlig and Todd Austin, Intel Microcomputer Research Lab
David Kaeli, Northeastern University
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOPIC
The goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and
practitioners from industry and academia to discuss work-in-progress on
performance analysis of PC-based systems. This workshop loosely defines
"PCs" as low-cost desktop computer systems, with one primary user, that are
used for running productivity software (word processors, spreadsheets, CAD
tools, etc.) or non-productivity software (web browsers, e-mail, games,
etc.). Work that looks beyond raw performance to include other metrics of
utility or usability are welcome. We encourage, in particular, studies of
low-power PC system design, as well as systems optimized for cost reduction,
rather than for pure speed.
SUBMISSIONS
We are soliciting 1-page abstracts describing work-in-progress on the
general topic of PC-based system performance and analysis. Authors of
accepted abstracts will have an opportunity to present a 20-minute talk on
their work. We hope to encourage presentations of work in early stages of
development, so no full papers or proceedings will be published, although
presentation foils will be distributed at the workshop and on a web page.
Possible topics for talks include, but are not limited to:
* PC platform architecture, chipset and I/O subsystem design
* PC graphics architectures and media processors
* Methods and tools for PC application performance
* Performance analysis of PC-based operating systems
* Methods for reducing PC system cost or power consumption
Please send your 1-page abstract submissions in ASCII text to any one of the
workshop co-chairs by August 1st, 1998:
