Systems Research Browser
Here are some pointers to research groups around the country
who are doing interesting systems research, ranging from quantitative
studies of architectural issues to "scruffy" systems to support
collaboration.

-
Margo Seltzer's group at Harvard is
designing an extensible operating system called VINO, with
a goal of improving support for databases.
-
Paul Wilson's
OOPS Research Group at UT-Austin is developing the
Texas persistent object store, and exploring other
memory management issues for object languages.
Don Batory's
Predator group at UT is also doing some interesting work
on extensible databases.

David Tennenhouse's
Telemedia, Networks, and Systems Group
at MIT is doing lots of interesting work on distributed multimedia systems (buzzwords: desk
area networks, ATM host interface issues, and visual programming environments). Some of their
stuff is based on some new object-oriented extensions to Tcl.
