Transactions and Persistent Storage

Barbara Liskov's Programming Methodology Group at MIT is developing the Thor object database system.

Margo Seltzer's group at Harvard is designing an extensible operating system called VINO, with a goal of improving support for databases.

Paul Wilson's OOPS Research Group at UT-Austin is developing the Texas persistent object store, and exploring other memory management issues for object languages. Don Batory's Predator group at UT is also doing some interesting work on extensible databases.
