Extra Credit
Write a ~3 page paper dealing with some important current development in
computers and computer science. Examples of good topics include voice
recognition, internet security, handheld computers (such as Palm) and the
commercial software engineering experience.
The paper must focus on the technical aspects of its topic, as opposed to
business or personal. For instance, a paper on Palm could receive credit
for an informed discussion of the device's handwriting recognition system,
but not for reporting on the company's recent IPO, or the drama of its three
key founders leaving to start competitor HandSpring.
Given that it must be technical, it should also display some thought
or reaction on your part thos this development. Your opinions should
be about 20-25% of the paper.
A paper can earn up to 12 extra points, to be added to the midterm score.
It is due Monday, March 27th.

Important lab information: in contrast to previous semesters, lab due dates will be
strictly enforced this term. All labs are due 10 minutes before the beginning of the next week's lab. For instance,
if the Thursday section begins Lab 1 at 2:15 on January 20, their assignment will be due via email at 2:05 on Thursday,
January 27.
