Grading
The final course grade will be calculated based on the following percentages:
|
Daily Questions |
10% |
|
Homeworks |
30% |
|
Quizzes |
10% |
|
Midterm Exam |
20% |
|
Final Exam |
30% |
A grade of 90% or above receives an A, 80% or above receives a B, and so forth. Students can also earn two (2) extra credit points on their final grade by completing a Challenge.
Attendance
Per Summer School recommendations, poor attendance will negatively alter your grade. Students are allowed two absences; after that the final grade will be decreased incrementally. In the case of illnesses, see Duke's Illness Policy.
Please do arrive on time. Class will not run late (if I lose track of time, feel free to let me know - or just get up and leave), so the same promptness is expected of everyone.
Return Policy
Homeworks, quizzes, and the midterm exam will all be returned two class periods after they are submitted. They will not be returned earlier. If, for whatever reason, I get something back to you late, you will all receive five (5) extra credit points on that assignment.
Evaluations
In addition to the standard evaluations given at the end of the course, students will also be asked to "grade" each lecture. I will give out slips of paper during each class, and students are to consider how well they understood the material, write and number between 0 and 10, and turn it in at the end of class.
Note that this is only meant to judge how well the lecture conveyed the material. If you have other issues with the course, please do let me know, but in another format. I hope that this will show me how best to lecture to this class, and, in the end, to help you learn.
