What to turn in:

There are two types of assignments in this class. The first type will be answers to questions about the reading. The purpose of these questions if to ensure that you approach the reading in a thoughtful and timely manner, and that you come to class prepared to have a fruitful discussion. Answers to questions on the readings do not need to be very long. Usually a few sentences per question will suffice.

The second type of assignment will be problems or short programming assignments based upon lectures. These assignments will typically be more mathematical in nature.

All assignments should be turned in through sakai. Please turn in a single file only. If the assignment involves text answers to questions, please turn in a single PDF with your name and assignment number as part of the file name. Please be sure to include your name at the top of your answer as well. Do not submit Microsoft Word files. If the assignment involves text answers and code, please turn in a single, zipped folder with your code and any text in a PDF. Any files in your code should have your name displayed prominently in the comments. Do not use any other compression scheme. You will not receive bonus points for stumping the TA with your exotic compression algorithm.

Academic Honesty: We take academic honesty very seriously. This matrix should leave no ambiguity about what is permitted and what is not permitted. Please also see the lecture notes on academic honesty. You should check if you have any confusion about what is permitted.

Lateness: For questions on readings that precede discussions, we cannot accept late assignments. We also cannot grant extensions on these assignments. For other assignments (problems and code), there will be a 10% per day lateness penalty, up to maximum of 5 days. Do not bother turning in assignments that are more than 5 days late. You may request extensions for these assignments before the due date. Acceptable reasons for requesting extensions include, but are not limited to, illness, conference travel, participation as an athlete in official university sporting events, and religious holidays.
