In this Alice world, the user is presented with
various choices, and the story progresses based on the user's actions.
If the user chooses to be polite, his karma level increases. Likewise,
if he is rude, then his karma level decreases. The ending of the story
depends on the user's karma level at the time that he gets to critical
junctures.
The premise of the story is that the main character wakes up late
on the morning he has a meeting with the heads of his corporation. He
runs out of his apartment on his way to work, and immediately
encounters a bum begging for change. Upon this encounter, the user is
given three options: give the bum some spare change, ignore the bum, or
confront the bum. After engaging (or ignoring) the bum, the user then
selects his ride to work. If he chooses the corvette, he immediately
advances to the next scene. If he instead chooses to take the taxi, he
walks toward the taxi only to have an old lady beat him to it. He must
then decide whether or not to steal the cab from the old lady. If the
user steal's the cab, he loses some karma but advances to the next
scene. If he lets the lady have the cab, he has to wait for another
cab, which comes only if the user's karma level is high enough. If the
cab comes, he makes it to the next scene. If not, he is fired and
becomes a bum.
The next scene is set at the meeting. Here, we find out that the
user is not as late as one of his coworkers, which presents the next
dilemma: since the user is competing with this coworker for a
promotion, should he criticize him or support him. Choosing to be
supportive increases the karma level while being critical decreases it.
If the user chooses to be supportive, he receives a promotion unless
his karma level is too high. If this is the case, he is fired for being
a suck-up and becomes a bum. If he chooses to be critical, his karma
level must be high in order for him to receive a promotion. If it is
low, he is fired and, again, becomes a bum. If the user receives a
promotion, he is then given the choice of either celebrating or getting
straight to work. If he chooses to get to work, the setting of the
scene changes from an office to a graveyard, and we learn that the user
dies after living an unfulfilling life. If he instead chooses to
celebrate, he advances to another scene.
The events of this scene depend on the karma level. If the karma
level is high enough, the main character is approached by some ladies
for being such a successful stud. Hooray! However, if it is not, then
the user gets hit and killed by an ambulance. Tough luck!
