The guidelines remain the same as midterm1. You can use the Internet, however you cannot communicate with any person about these questions (except ola, vamsi) --- that includes speaking, writing, humming, etc.
A recent BBC article calls for rethinking the way the today's Internet works: More global governance and mandate of secure technology. Write a paragraph in which you demonstrate the understanding of today's Internet governance policy and the different parties/groups involved in the policy making. Discuss briefly the challenges involved in changing the Internet governance structure to be more global, e.g., with the ITU involved in the governance. In your response you should address whether a more global/different governance structure and mandate of technology will address the security concerns the author in the BBC article has raised. You can use examples or anecdotes when necessary to support your position.
A recent discussion surrounding privacy issues on the Internet argues that: "we do not yet fully understand the power of the data we have shared, and that by unwittingly giving this information to Google, Facebook and others we are shaping the future of our society in ways we cannot predict." Write a few paragraphs comparing and distinguishing the following: (1) Privacy on the Internet vs. offline (e.g., Acxiom that we discussed in class) in the context of the above author's hypothesis and (2) Anonymity vs. Privacy on the Internet in general. In addition, take a stance and justify briefly on whether the government should regulate the privacy policies as Google and Facebook are becoming public utility corporations. See the recent White House announcement of online privacy guidelines and this blog post about Facebook as a public utility.
