Pre lab assignment: Setting up your home page

Duke University provides 5 GB space for personal web pages to students, faculty and staff. In this lab assignment, we will setup and configure our own home pages.

  1. To access your web page space from the lab, open windows explorer (or My Computer) and search for "P" drive. In the P: drive, you will see a folder called "public_html": this is the folder, where you store your web pages.
  2. You can access your web page files from your home as well. To do so, go to: https://webfiles.duke.edu. Follow these guides to upload your files using Webfiles.
  3. The files you stored in /public_html folder will appear in www.duke.edu/~yournetid. For example if you uploaded cps001.html in the public_html folder, you can see that web page at www.duke.edu/~yournetid/cps001.html
  4. Now we are ready to create our home page.
  5. For more detailed instructions (with pictures), check this guide.
