Workshops 2010
There will be two different types of Alice workshops in June and July 2010 at Duke. There will be one-week workshops for new teachers beginning with Alice and 2-day followup workshops for teachers who attended a 2008 or 2009 Alice workshop at Duke.
These workshops are free and include a free lunch, free parking and CEU credits. We are running on limited funds while we apply for more funding, so we have no funds for travel or lodging. We can recommend a nearby hotel and put people in touch with each other if they would like to share a hotel to keep costs down. We may have lodging funds for future workshops (2011 or later).
We are also running a two-day workshop for the Duke Project Lead the Way program on July 29-30. We are not taking registrations for that program, as that program is through Duke Engineering and Alice is just a small part of that program.
One-Week Alice Workshops for Teachers to Learn Alice
There will be two one-week introductory Alice workshops in June/July 2010 for teachers who have never programmed in Alice before that want to learn Alice for use in elementary, middle and high schools. The workshops are the same, so you can only attend one of the workshops. These are free workshops that include lunch, breaks, parking and 30 hours education credits. There are no stipends, no lodging or travel funds for these workshops.
This workshop is targetted towards K-12 teachers (mostly 5th-12th grade) that would like to learn how they can integrate the Alice programming language into their curriculum and their students can integrate Alice into projects. Teachers can integrate Alice into all types of disciplines: social studies, mathematics, language arts, science, technology, business, foreign language, music, art, etc.
- The dates for the 5-day workshops are:
- Workshop 1: Monday, June 14 - Friday, June 18, 2010, (9am-4pm).
- Workshop 2: Monday July 12 - Friday July 16, 2010, (9am-4pm).
Followup Workshops for Previous Participants
There will be two two-day followup workshops at Duke for teachers who attended the 2008 or 2009 workshops. These workshops will include teacher presentations on their use on Alice and learning new Alice material. The workshops are the same, so you can only attend one of the workshops. These are free workshops that include lunch, breaks, parking and 12 hours education credits. There are no stipends, no lodging or travel funds for these workshops.
- The dates for the 2-day followup workshops are:
- Workshop 1: Monday June 21 - Tuesday June 22, 2010, (9am-4pm).
- Workshop 2: Tuesday, July 6 - Wednesday, July 7, 2010, (9am-4pm).
Alice Symposium
We held an Alice Symposium on June 17, 2009. Information and papers are here.
There are no plans for an Alice Symposium in summer 2010, but we
are likely to hold another Alice Symposium in the future.
