Duke High School Girls Event Materials
July 19, 2007
Here are the materials I used to teach Alice to high school girls
in a 75 minute session at Duke on July 19, 2007.
I talked for about 10-15 minutes about computer science, then went through
building this world with them. They got all of it done except the last
method, the 3D titles and the camera.
- Alice programming environment - free
- Handout - describes how to build Alice World
- snowPeople.a2w - Alice world that is
built (without adding the camera)
Note: if you download it, and it gets renamed to a .zip file, then rename it to snowPeople.a2w (your computer may not know about Alice worlds)
- snowPeopleCamera.a2w - Alice world that is
built (with camera views changing to Snowman view and then SnowWoman view)
Note: if you download it, and it gets renamed to a .zip file, then rename it to snowPeopleCamera.a2w (your computer may not know about Alice worlds)
Shown below are the three camera views. First is the snowman view. He is
looking
at the snowWoman and the light is behind her so she has a shadow on
her. Second is the
snowWoman view. She is looking at the snowman. Third is
the original position of the camera, panned out to show the complete
scene.
