Today is the first day of the kids summer camp. The kids are picking things up pretty fast. They're a lot of fun. For most of the day, I haven't had much time to work on anything of my own. I thought I would when the kids started making their own worlds, but I ended up helping some of them. It's definitely a different dynamic teaching kids instead of adults. Most of the kids stayed on task, a few of them didn't want to be there and some of them worked on their own thing.

Today, jenna and Ruthie finished going over their tutorial. We took the kids (and some teachers) on a walk to see cameron. But their were basketball camps going on so it was just a long walk not to see much. Solomon got a nose bleed while we were walking - poor kid.

Gaetjens led the tutorial about kangaroo visiting friends (introducing parameters). Then the kids spent some time working on their own worlds. Throughout the day, I've worked on my creating a function tutorial.

Today Gaetjens finished the Kangaroo visit tutorial. Professor Rodger asked me to make a quick list example. We took the kids and some of the teachers to the Duke University store. After we got back, I showed them how to make lists. At lunch, Whitney showed us how she makes the Maya characters. Throughout the day, a photographer took pictures of us. The kids demonstrated their worlds. Which I could tell they were really proud of. I'm making a tutorial out of the lists example. Hopefully, I'll finish these tutorials soon so we can use them in the camp next week.

This morning, I made a quick example about BDE, which I'm going to teach the kids tomorrow. We had a good time taking the kids over to Cameron. The kids figured out how to record sound, so they went wild with that today. Some of the teachers gave feedback about how this third week of the camp was for them. Hopefully we will learn for next week and future workshops/camps. A picture of me and Emily appeared in the article that Duke wrote about the camp. Here's a link: article

This morning, I gave the kids my BDE tutorial. I think they had a lot of fun with it. Then I went up and gave the same tutorial to the teachers. The teachers are so wonderful. Michelle and Seema gave me a card and a necklace. Totally unexpected! It's been a great three weeks with these teachers. Then we went on a walk to the Chapel and Duke Gardens. After lunch, I continued to help the teachers and students finish up their worlds before the kids demo animation fair. Great job for a week long camp.
