My sister Shannon, Lana and I moved into our apartment over the weekend. We enjoyed the holiday with: playing tennis, swimming, going to church, brunch with some friends, and finishing the weekend with a potluck at our place on Monday night. Our fourth apartment mate, Tiffany moved in Monday evening. She'll be working with Professor Forbes.

This morning, Lana and I came into the office around 8am. It was a pleasant surprise to see Jenna! I set up my journal - not very creatively - by using the same format as last year. Then i showed Lana Alice. Professor Rodger came in to explain the month of workshops and I met Liz. Now I am working on improving the last tutorial I made last summer, about questions using events. And I am also creating a section version of the starter world tutorials. Then I'm going to make some slight modifications on a memory game I made in order to demonstrate the use of sound.

I was able to get my alumni card today, and I had to get a separate employee card. As I worked on Questions using events, I realized I didn't like how the world was structured, so I changed it, hopefully to make it easier to duplicate. I am also reformatting my tutorial since there are so many different sections (and subsections, etc).

I worked for about an hour and a half when I went home last night. This morning, I finished refactoring the questionEvents world. As I was making the tutorial, Jenna informed me that the create a paramter (or variable) of type String does not work with Alice 2.2. I'm switching back to 2.0 to finish making my tutorial. We went to the Wednesday lunch at noon. It's always nice to meet all the other interns. Sophia showed how to use the iPhone app for accessing Itunes U. Back in the office, Jenna and I discovered that our version of 2.2 was from April and they'd updated a version yesterday. Thankfully, the parameter bugs have been fixed. The team met with Professor Rodger briefly to discuss the next week or so of work as we prepare for the workshops. Jenna and Lana gave me some pretty good ideas for the starter tutorial. I took notes on what aspects of Ruthie's version of the starter tutorial that I'm going to incorporate in my own.

This morning, I took a break from the tutorial I've been working on to start making the world for the starter tutorial. At first, I started making a world about a guy in a desert and a bird. But it was boring. Then I tried to make a world about bowling, but after thinking through it I thought it was too complicated for something to explain as an introduction to Alice. After that I finally decided to make a skate park. I like it a lot better. I made the beginning parts and then started making the powerpoint. I showed it to Professor Rodger and she told me some stuff to add. I'll finish up tomorrow.

Since I looked at an old version yesterday, I went through Ruthie's tutorial to make sure i'm covering all of the same things that she did. Then I worked on finishing the world and organizing my thoughts for the powerpoint. I think I'm going to write all of the text before I take the screenshots. Hopefully that'll save time.

After that I decided to read through my journal from last year. I'd made a world that used random numbers, so I think I'll improve it as an advanced example. Also, I'm updating the format of my webpage after navigating through the old one.

Cheryl gave me another form to fill out for payroll. I hope everything goes through on time for next week. Also, my sisters haven't had to fill out these forms even though they're Duke grads working here this summer. I hope they don't have any problems with payroll either.

For lunch we went to twisted Noodle. Thanks Professor Rodger! It was scrumptious. I'm continuing my work from these last few days. I might work over the weekend, at least for four hours. My goal is to finish the final draft of questions using clicks and to finish the first draft of the four part starter tutorial.
