Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) involves students working cooperatively in small groups, led by trained undergraduate "peer leaders". PLTL has been used successfully for many years in Chemistry and other science courses to improve retention, boost grades, and increase students' enthusiasm for the subject. With funding from NSF, seven universities have been applying PLTL in Computer Science for the past three years.

This workshop provides training for those interested in trying PLTL in introductory Computer Science courses. Participants will take part in sample PLTL sessions, learn about resources needed to start a PLTL program, and will hear about the experiences of the faculty, undergraduate participants, and peer leaders from the seven NSF-funded universities.

One or a group of participants from an institution may apply. The group should have at least one faculty leader and may include potential student peer leaders. Reasonable travel expenses, lodging and food will be paid for those selected to participate in the workshop. Registration fee is required to register. The fee will be reimbursed after attending the workshop. Faculty should plan to attend both days, ending by 1:30pm on Sunday. Students need to attend Saturday only.
