Owen, here's the list as is. I hope this is useful. Gene

BMG Collection: Popular - Last Edit: 26 Apr 94 - Last Discovery: SR/15/0

Notes:

I have taken over from Bob Neidorff, so don't flame too quickly.
Since I modified Bob's list in my own database, you will need
to either get used to my version or edit my monthly update
to match the old format. Better yet, you could start over with
a new database of the full list. Yhighly recommended?

Price Codes: A=$14.98, B=$15.98 Ywill NOT be continued?

The following information is believed to be accurate.
No warranties to accuracy are made. Check first to be sure.
Prices may have changed since this was transcribed.
Most soundtracks are listed under the artist name "Soundtracks."
Not all artists are listed last-name-first. Look both places.
This list was created by hand typing the contents of years of
BMG music fliers. This list may contain discontinued titles.
This list may contain typographical errors. Report errors.

The latest version of this list is available by FTP from node:

FYI: A few bits of information about BMG.

BMG stands for Bertlesmann Music Group, which is a subsidiary of
Bertlesmann A. G., a conglomerate owned by Richard Mohn of West Germany.
Bertlesmann A. G. also owns RCA Records, Arista, Parents Magazine, Young
Miss Magazine, Doubleday, Bantam Books, and other well known media giants.

Occasionally, people experience problems with BMG. Most often,
these are related to incorrect shipments. Sometimes, people get defective
discs. From what I have heard and personally experienced, BMG will correct
all errors. They will not give you a hard time.

If you receive a disc that you did not order, do NOT open it. Mark
the package "REFUSED" and put it back into your mailbox. You will be
credited with the price of the disc and also with the shipping.

If you want more direct contact, you can call BMG, but they only
offer a normal phone line: 317/542-0414. It is a good idea to confirm any
telephone conversation with a letter. For your own peace of mind, keep
notes of your phone call. Save the name of the person you talked with,
what you discussed, what they are going to do to help, and the date/time
of the call. Those notes make it easier if you need to call back.

BMG distributes compact discs and tapes through their music club.
Many titles are available on tape that aren't available on CD, and vice
versa. _This_list_specifically_addresses_CD_titles_only._

If you are a BMG subscriber, you will periodically get a magazine
from them listing titles that are available, special offers, and the featured
disc of the month. Classical subscribers get a different mailing than
popular music subscribers, and tape subscribers get a still different
mailing. The popular magazine (catalog) is called Discovery. The Classical
catalog is called Encore. The tape catalog is called Medley.

BMG does not offer membership outside the USA.

If you hate being forced to return a postcard every mailing, saying
that you don't want anything, there's good news. If you are a BMG member
and have fulfilled your obligation, you can call BMG and ask them to change
your membership to the "Positive Option". With this, you will not get cards
promising to send you a featured selection if you do nothing. The cards will
still come along with the flyers, but the cards will say to mail them back
if you want any discs at all.

There is another company that offers a similar deal to that of BMG.
That company is Columbia House. Satisfaction with Columbia House has been
mixed, based on a very small sample of rec.audio readers. There is no file
available that contains all Columbia House offerings, but Columbia House
will mail a partial list of their collection to anyone, member or not. To
get a copy of that list, call 812/466-8125. The Columbia House collection
partially overlaps the BMG collection. Columbia House is owned by Sony, who
also owns CBS, so Columbia House has Sony and CBS titles that are not in the
BMG collection.
