Guests are welcome to use the kiosk machines around the CS Department, but faculty, students, and staff in the Computer Science Department have priority. The machines may be reinstalled many times during the semester so it is a good idea to backup your data regularly. Announcements about machine upgrades/issues will be sent out with as much prior notice as possible.
Data will be automatically removed from these systems each night and after each reboot of the system unless it is stored in the local Thawspace. There is 4 GB of storage on drive drive of these system. You may access it directly by browsing .
These machines will reboot after 180 minutes (3 hours) of inactivity at the keyboard. All data that has not been written to the Thawspace will be removed at that point.
At 11 pm and 2:30 am daily, these systems will restart. Data not saved in the thaw space will be lost. You will be warned 15 minutes prior to shutdown.
These machines will be rebooted (without notice) according to the following nightly schedule for maintenance. The keyboard and mouse will be locked during these times:

Please remember that your data is not secure and it may be removed at any time. For this reason, we recommend that you FTP your data to another location using one of the SFTP clients installed on the system.
Printing to department printers is not guaranteed from these machines.
All kiosk machines, will automatically login at boot time. If a machine is not responsive you may power-cycle it.
If you notice any missing functionality or hardware on a particular system, please note the name on the front of the system and contact the Lab Staff.
