CSL: Wireless IPP Printing Setup

These instructions should enable you to print from the wireless network. For a list of printers see the CS printer list.

Windows:

Note: Vista clients must have SP1 or higher installed to print to Dell 5310n printers via wireless. (last updated: Oct 2008).

  1. Start → Settings → Printers → Add Printer
    This brings up the Add Printer Wizard
  2. Next → Network printer
  3. Continue to Connect to a printer on the Internet
  4. Fill in the URL with http://prROOM.cs.duke.edu (where the ROOM number is the one in front of the printer you want to print to).
  5. Select Next and choose the driver for the printer. The model of the printer should be listed on the CS Printer List.

Mac OS X

  1. Systems Preferences → Print and Fax
  2. Select + to add printer
  3. Protocol → Internet Printing Protocol
  4. Enter IP address from the CS printer list
  5. Leave the queue empty, and ensure that the correct driver was installed.
  6. Select Add.

If you experience trouble with slow printing you may need to switch the drivers from PCL 6 to either PCL 5 or the PS driver. As a last ditch effort, installing the HP printing system for that printer usually works well.
