Spam filtering using Pine
As of Pine 4.44 (and possibly some earlier versions), you
can automatically filter e-mails from your e-mail INBOX
that have been processed by the Lab's Spamassassin
installation. To do this, you will need to add a filter rule to look
for the X-Spam-Flag header; based on matches to this rule,
you can delete, mark or move the spam to a separate folder.
- Start by navigating to the Add Filter screen:
(M)ain menu → (S)etup → (R)ules → (F)ilters → (A)dd
- By default, the rule will look in your INBOX.
Leave this as the default.
- Under FILTERED MESSAGE CONDITIONS, navigate
to the e(X)traHdr command to add a new header filter.
- Enter X-Spam-Flag, then use the (C)hange command
to set the value to YES (case is important here).
- In the ACTIONS section, set the Filter Action
to delete, mark or move the message to a different folder. Enter your
choice and save the changes.
Now when you start pine, all messages marked as spam in your
INBOX should be automatically filtered. If you have any
questions please contact the Lab Staff.
