Severe Weather Policy - Absence from Work
- Hourly-Paid (non-exempt) Staff
Employees - If the hourly-paid staff employee is absent from
work as the result of the activation of the severe weather policy,
accrued vacation, discretionary holidays or time off without pay may
be used to cover the absence. Alternatively, with prior approval
from their supervisor hourly-paid staff may make up missed work time
within three months of the severe weather day(s); or if feasible and
with the prior approval of their supervisor work may be done at home.
The time card for the current pay period reflects actual hours
worked supplemented by available vacation or discretionary holidays.
Make-up time is recorded and paid in the pay period in which it occurs.
Only if the hourly-paid employee is away from work on an approved sick
leave request the day before the severe weather/emergency conditions
policy is activated, may he/she use sick leave while the policy is
active.
- Monthly-Paid (exempt) Staff Employee
- If the monthly-paid staff employee is absent from work as the result
of the activation of the severe weather policy, accrued vacation or
discretionary holidays may be used to cover the absence. Time off
without pay cannot be used to account for this time. Alternatively,
with the prior approval of their supervisor monthly-paid staff may make
up missed work time within three months of the severe weather day(s);
or if feasible and with the prior approval of their supervisor work
may be done at home. Only if the monthly-paid staff employee is away
from work on an approved sick leave request the day before the severe
weather/emergency conditions policy is activated, may he/she use sick
leave while the policy is active.
