During their first two years in the Ph.D. program, students must receive a "Quals Pass" in four of the six designated courses:
| COMPSCI 210 | Operating Systems |
| COMPSCI 220 | Architecture |
| COMPSCI 230 | Algorithms |
| COMPSCI 240 | Models and Complexity |
| COMPSCI 250 | Numerical Analysis |
| COMPSCI 270 | Artificial Intelligence |
The courses listed below will have a qualifying exam offered prior to the start of the semester. Students interested in taking one or more of these exams should register by August 7. Alternatively, students may enroll in a 'qual' course and attempt to earn the Quals Pass based upon exam performance during the semester.
