Entering the Zettabyte Age

Abstract
Entering the Zettabyte age has significant ramifications on how businesses, government, and universities store, analyze, and derive intelligence from their data. In this talk, we discuss historical trends in large-scale storage and analytics from shard'ed SQL and SAN architecture in the early 1990's to modern No SQL solutions. In particular, we describe how the deficiencies of prior storage and analytics architectures have motivated the design and implementation of the current cutting edge cluster analytic systems such as Hadoop and Cassandra. We close by examining directions for future research and open problems in large-scale distributed systems.

Biography
Jeffrey is Co-Founder and President at Zettaset and is responsible for the company’s Professional Services Organization, and Operations. He has a comprehensive background in business, technology, software development and design, telecommunications, and mergers and acquisitions. Before joining Zettaset, Jeffrey held the key positions of President of KroneDavid, Inc., a full service Finance / Accounting, M&A, and IT Services consulting company. He also served as President of CNS, a full service IT, M&A, and Telecommunications consulting company.
Prior to CNS, Jeffrey served as Vice President of Technology for Platinum Equity, a $10b private acquisition firm. In this position, Jeffrey focused on the product side of all acquisitions, assisting Platinum portfolio managers with strategic product issues and a wide range of technology initiatives, including product and vendor selection, contract negotiations, telecommunications, and Network / Data Security. Jeffrey focused on forging strategic technology and communication relationships that enabled Platinum Equity to more effectively acquire and manage all its operating units. Prior to joining Platinum Equity, Jeffrey was Director of Research at Webtone Technologies. He directed a group responsible for investigating and developing emerging technologies that integrated into Webtone’s multimedia telephony call center software solution. He has also served in various roles including Development Manager at Dunn & Bradstreet Software.
