Among the 1,400 participants from twenty-two countries attending the 2007 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference (GHC) in Orlando, Florida, on October 17-20, were Professor Carla Ellis, seven CS grad students and three CS undergrads.

Ellis served as Panels and Workshops Co-Chair. She also spoke at the panel on the twentieth anniversary of the systers electronic community since she is a founding member of the group.

Students found the conference to be very beneficial. Fourth year PhD student Urmi Majumder said she came away from GHC with a network of women and tools that would enhance her professional growth. First year PhD student Jie Xiao said, “Before I went to the conference I didn’t know that so many talented women are doing so well in computer science. Listening to them helped me make decisions about my own development.”

The annual conference is designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront.
