Farsiu Joins Faculty
CS is delighted to welcome Sina Farsiu, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Computer Science, as secondary faculty. Farsiu took up his primary appointment in the Duke Medicine Department of Opthalmology in 2007, arriving from the University of California in Santa Cruz, where he received his PhD degree in electrical engineering, with a concentration in statistical image and signal processing.
Farsiu is the director of Duke's Vision and Image Processing (VIP) laboratory and the principal investigator of National Institutes of Health R01 and R21 grants. He is an associate editor of IEEE's Transactions on Image Processing, and his technical interests include: computer-aided diagnosis of ocular and neurological diseases; photonics imaging; image enhancement and reconstruction; and statistical signal processing.
Farsiu also teaches a graduate level course on Digital Image Processing (BME 544).
