Duke Programmers Place First
Three Duke students will head to Warsaw, Poland, in May as winners of the ACM Mid-Atlantic regional programming contest. They were among more than 160 teams who competed for five hours November 5 at eight sites along the East Coast in the regional contest. more »

Daphne Ezer Wins Marshall Scholarship
Daphne Ezer, a senior who has already developed into a full-fledged computational biologist, has won a Marshall Scholarship to complete two years of graduate study in the United Kingdom. She plans to use her award to pursue a doctoral degree in genetics at the University of Cambridge. more »

Vincent Conitzer Promoted to Professor
The Department is pleased to announce the double promotion of Vincent Conitzer to full professor with tenure. Conitzer, a member of the Artificial Intelligence faculty in Computer Science with a secondary appointment in Economics, joined Duke as an assistant professor in 2006. more »

TechConnect 2011
A record-breaking 48 companies registered and more than 400 students attended TechConnect on September 13. “We lost count when we ran out of the 400 name badges we printed, and the students kept coming in,” said Kirsten Shaw, co-organizer of the biannual networking event. more »

Brook Osborne Named National Director of Outreach

Grad Student Awards Presented
The 2010-11 annual meeting, hosted by Chair Carlo Tomasi and DGS Jun Yang, featured the presentation of awards to nine graduate students. Honors went to those students with the best work in each milestone, to the best TA, and to those whose service enriched the research life of the department. more »

Duke Participates in Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
With departmental support and the help of airline vouchers, fellowships and grants from Yahoo!, 15 students from the Department of Computer Science were able to attend the 2011 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, a four-day conference in November. more »
