I am in my first year as a PhD student and work on mobile computing, especially using diverse sensors to improve wireless communication quality. Smart cellphones have changed peoples’ lives, but have also brought many problems for researchers to solve, such as the huge consumption of energy, and the limitations of bandwidth.
I like that the first year students all have offices together; our space has a good ambiance of study and research. This allows me to improve my communication skills and broaden my research interests. I have found that the faculty and staff who work in this department really care about the students and our needs.
The facilities at Duke are awesome, whether I want to work or play. I like jogging, and in Duke Forest there are wonderful jogging paths. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most since coming to Duke is the 50-bell carillon in the tower of Duke Chapel. It plays at 5pm every day and is simply amazing.
