Ying Zheng
Grad Student
I work in the areas of computational topology and computer vision, specifically on the 3D reconstruction of plant roots and pattern recognition through the lens of symmetry. I developed software that biologists on the team use to reconstruct the 2D images of the roots of agricultural plants, which will help improve our future food production. (Ying was given the Outstanding Masters Project Award for 2010/11 for this work.)
I am happy at Duke; the campus is beautiful and the lifestyle quite casual. Faculty and students are very friendly, making collaborations over research very natural. In fact, one of my favorite collaborations is with my husband, also a Duke CS student!
I will be a software engineer at You Tube/Google when I finish my PhD early next year.
