generating drug brand names
I've always wondered how pharmaceutical companies determine the names for their products. In fact, given some of the drug names that I have seen, I am certain that there is some amount of randomness involved.
Well now all guesswork can be set aside, because a drug brand name generator has been developed! Using a list of the brand names of known drugs (since they are more interesting than the generic names), a Markov model of the specified order is trained and new drug names are generated according to the parameters of the learned Markov model.
The list of brand name drugs was compiled from here (the list actually totals around 1000, not 4000 as purported on the website). If you know of a larger set, or if you would like to see this performed on generic drug names, send me a link and I will try it.
