Received June 9, 2000 From: Jean-Paul Castille This is to advise the IETF that Antor Corporation (Antor), a US licensing company is the owner of fundamental patents in the US (5,497,502 and 5,734,961) and France (89 07759) for the invention Method and apparatus for transmitting information recorded on digital disks from a central server to subscribers via a high data rate digital telecommunication network, covering fundamental Internet and interactive television technology. The patents relate to many well-known Internet and interactive multimedia applications like MP3 online music delivery and Video on demand. The access and delivery methods used by ISPs, portals are covered by method claims of the patent. The devices (multimedia server, portals and PC/set top box) for transmitting Internet content to end users are covered by apparatus claims as well. In short, the invention filed in 1989 has foreseen the Internet with its multimedia applications. For that invention defining a new area of the telecommunications, I have been granted the Worldwide Invention Award of year 1994 World Invention Book of France. The IETF invites any interested party to bring to its attention any patents which may cover technology that may be required to practice its standards. As we believe the above mentioned patents are related to Internet standards, we ask the IETF to evaluate the patents, to inform your working groups of their existence and have these patents posted in the page for notices of intellectual property rights of the IETF website. We are willing to sell the patents and would like to know how the IETF can help for transmitting this information to the Internet community or among the companies that are members of the IETF. In the meantime we are willing to grant non-exclusive licenses under these patents on a nondiscriminatory basis and on reasonable terms and conditions.
