I was born in San José, Costa Rica and lived most of my childhood in Tres Ríos, Costa Rica. Growing up, I spent a year in Pennsylvania and another in Texas. I have lived in the US since 2002, first in Louisiana for my undergraduate studies and now in North Carolina for my Ph.D.

In addition to my academic work, I am very interested in literature, art, and fitness. I am currently writing my first novel, which I expect to illustrate as well. I exercise daily: my regimen includes a mix of strength training, cross-country and track running, and plyometrics. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as soccer, basketball, hiking, and skiing.
