Books recommended we have read

Books are sorted by starting age. A book labeled (3) means appropriate starting at age 3 up until about age 5. Some kids might be able to read it earlier. Depends on the kid

Many of these books were strongly recommended by places such as The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, The Horn book, The New York Times Parents Guide to the Best Books for Children, Chinaberry catalogue, Best Books for Boys by Odean, award winning books, and books that we have found and really liked.

The early reader books are the ones that my son liked to read, so they may not be the best books but they were ones he wanted to read. These have (level X) beside them. They are mixed in with the others and also a separate listing of just them.

Books

I'll update this as we read books. Feel free to send me your recommendations for books that do not appear. There are some obvious books I left off. For example, I recommend all 40+ books of Dr. Seuss. Just didn't type them all in. If you like a book by an author, try other books by the same author. Again, I have done the same but not always typed in all the books by the same author.

Here is a link to how I taught my son to read.

Last update is July 21, 2006.
