Self Assembly

George M. Whitesides
A researcher in biochemistry, materials science, catalysis and physical organic chemistry with a long list of accomplishments. Among other things, he recently has done some work on self-assembly; a topic related to self-reconfiguring robots. This page is mostly a short biography, but a link to the research group's site is hidden at the bottom of the page.

MEMS: Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems

MEMS: What is it?
This page gives an explanation of what MEMS technology is about. For self-reconfiguring robots, MEMS could become a physical implementation of extremely small robot modules. The possibilities for such self-reconfiguring robotic systems are great.
MEMS: Main site
This is just to give a quick link to a major information resource on MEMS: memsnet.org. The explanation page about MEMS linked above is also held on this site.

Swarms

SWARMS Project
The homepage for the Scalable sWarms of Autonomous Robots and Mobile Sensors (SWARMS) project. This project studies swarming behavior in nature and seeks to apply it to groups of networked, autonomous robots. You can get to the same page from the url: http://www.grasp.upenn.edu/swarms/
SWARM Project: People Directory
Directory of people involved in the SWARMS project.
