Senior Applications Developer, Arts & Sciences Computing Duke University, Durham, NC (April 1997 - January 1999)


  • Managed technical team of 5 to develop educational and administrative intranet/internet applications.
  • Project manager for the Course Synopsis Database, a dynamic online system that integrates the university mainframe database with a Unix SQL server and allows users to view, search, and update via the web.
  • Developed web version of the 480-page Duke University Bulletin of Undergraduate Instruction, improving accessibility for students and streamlining editorial production for faculty.
  • Designed (and administered) the Ticket Tracking System and AV resources database, used throughout Arts and Sciences to facilitate the management and oversight of work requests and available resources.
  • Served as Duke University's technical contact in a tri-university consortium for the Papyrus Project, an enterprise that takes images of papyrus texts and organizes them into online research databases.
  • Researched and evaluated cutting-edge technologies and made budget recommendations for new hardware and software. Evaluated employee performance and made recommendations to the college's Dean of Computing.
  • Served as Arts and Sciences "webmaster," performing systems administration and maintenance on multiple Unix servers. Created, customized, and updated a collection of software tools for faculty.
