Program

This NSF funded nanoscience and nanotechnology education program at Duke offers a summer research program designed to expose undergraduate students to a range of cutting-edge research investigations. Students will gain valuable practical lab experience during the 10 week research projects (Monday, May 12th 2008 through Friday July 18th 2008). Five 2nd year undergraduates (sophomores in 08-09 school year) will be matched with host labs, and appropriate projects will be designed and directed by the faculty hosts.

The program will begin with an orientation meeting and end with a wrap-up meeting at which students will present 15 minute talks and a detailed report describing their project results. Feedback to the talks and papers will be provided by the program PIs and the laboratory mentors. Research participants will also be required to attend regular group meetings of their host lab throughout the summer, thus broadening the scope of their exposure to include multiple projects of the graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in the mentorsŐ lab.

The NUE research project will provide a $2000 stipend to students completing the summer research project and also $500 to the mentor labs for supplies, equipment fees, etc.
