Pankaj Agarwal has been appointed Earl D. McLean, Jr. Professor of Computer Science for a five-year term. This honor is awarded to Duke faculty for excellence in research and undergraduate teaching. As part of this appointment, Pankaj will become a member of the Bass Society of Fellows which meets regularly to discuss undergraduate education and how to strengthen the links between education and research.
Duke established the Bass Program for Excellence in Undergraduate Education with a grant from Anne and Bob Bass. The program has made it easier for others to endow chairs, and it has helped stimulate improvements in the undergraduate educational experience at Duke.
Pankaj will be joining a subset of some of Duke's strongest educator/researchers including John Board who holds a secondary appointment in the Department.
